Greenlaw Assists in Defeating Resolution SR-954 on Sabal Trail Pipeline Project

There has been another victory for Georgia’s environment against the Sabal Trail pipeline.  The Sabal Trail pipeline must obtain an easement to cross property and water to build this pipeline.  When the general assembly passed the the resolution the easement was kept out.  A heavy lobbying campaign managed to defeat the resolution, 128-34.  It was an unlikely coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and the Tea Party.

Sabal Trail Transmission, LLC is a joint venture of Spectra Energy Corp, NextEra Energy, Inc, and Duke Energy.  This joint venture is proposing to design, construct and operate an approximately 515 mile interstate natural gas pipeline to provide transportation services for power generation needs to Florida Power and Light (FPL) and Duke Energy of Florida (DEF).  The Sabal Trail pipeline, as proposed, would run through Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
